Ingredients
- 250g kachalu (colocasia/taro root)
- 1 teaspoon regular salt (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper powder
- 1 tablespoon tamarind chutney
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon mustard oil
- 1 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon chat masala
- 1 teaspoon black salt (kala namak)

Instructions
Boil the Kachalu:
1. wash the colocasia (kachalu) thoroughly under running water.
2.. In a pressure cooker or pot, boil the kachalu with enough water until they become soft. Around 15-20 minutes in a regular pot, or 2-3 whistles in a pressure cooker.
3. Once boiled, let them to cool, then peel off the skin and cut into thick slices or small cubes and keep aside.
4. In a small bowl wash the tamarind and soak in the water for 10 minutes.
Preparing the Masala Mix:
1. In a mixing bowl, add mustard oil, roasted cumin powder, chaat masala, black salt, regular salt, red chili powder, and black pepper powder. All the spices at your taste requirements.
2. Mix well to combine all the spices.
Toss the Kachalu:
1. Add the sliced or cubed kachalu into the spice mix.
2. Pour in the soaked tamarind Juice and lemon juice as per the taste.
3. Mix everything well so that the kachalu is evenly coated with the masala and chutney.
Garnishing and Serving:
1. Garnish with finely chopped onions, green chilies, and fresh coriander leaves.
2. Sprinkle pomegranate seeds for an extra burst of flavor (optional).
Serve Fresh:
1. Enjoy the kachalu chaat as a snack and tea as a combination.
